Morning departure for a day to explore Amorgos on your own.
Disembark at the island’s Katapola Port, set in a picturesque Cycladic fishing village. If you should wish to rent a car there are rental agencies at the port, or you can choose to use the local bus at the port for your exploration. The nearby Minoan ancient city above Katapola was the former summer residence of Minos, the first king of Crete. The island also has many other charming villages to visit. Amorgos’ capital, called Chora, is delightful and only five minutes from the island’s most famous attraction, the Monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa. Opt to swim at one of the island’s lovely beaches, enjoy fresh seafood and traditional Greek dishes with views of the magnificent Aegean, or simply wander around.
Note: An interesting fact is that the French English language film directed by Luc Besson,“The Big Blue / Le Grand Bleu was filmed in Amorgos.
